This past weekend, we had a very successful opening of The Marvelous Wonderettes. My sincere congratulations to the cast – you performed marvelously (see what I did there?).
But to the point of this blog post. In the program I am listed as the director, which I was. What this doesn’t mention is that, due to some serious time constraints, I was going to be unavailable for several rehearsals during the final two weeks prior to opening night – the most critical rehearsal days. This would not work.
I turned to Weston Holzinger, my assistant director, and asked him to step into the director’s role for these last two weeks. He readily took the reins and, I must tell you, he did an absolutely terrific job bringing this show to fruition. His vision for the show was spot on and his energy was tireless.
He, too, was MARVELOUS.
So, Weston, thank you.
Bill.
(BTW – don’t let his efforts go unnoticed. There are still two shows remaining on this Friday and Saturday (January 25 & 26) at the Highland High School Kennel. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!)
My name is Betty Jean and I would like to share my photo album with you.
I’m really not sure how this works but my home ec teacher said I could just type on this really cool typewriter and my story would get out. I guess this is the way newspapers are written, right?
Well, anyway, like I said, my name is Betty Jean (that’s me with the basketball) and me and my gal pals formed a doo wop group a few months ago. We were always best friends and we all sing real good so why not form a group? (I think I sound the best, but Cindy Lou always tries to hog the spotlight.)
My friend Opie (NOT my boyfriend . . . eew!) followed us around school last month and took some pictures of us with his Kodak Brownie camera. They came back last week and I put some of them in my memories album. He said I should share them with other people and here I am!
By the way, the Marvelous Wonderettes are performing on January 18, 19, 20, 25 and 26 at the local high school. I think we’re really, really, really good so you should come out and see us. Really! I think you can buy tickets now, but I’m not sure where you get them. Someone said at the Hard Road Theatre . . . wherever that is!
It was announced today that Springfield High School’s student musical group, The Marvelous Wonderettes, have been selected to perform at the “Class of 1958 Super Senior Prom.” School Principal, Mr. Varney explained, “We wanted to showcase the amazing talent we have here at SHS and these ladies are . . . well, marvelous! We’re all very excited.”
Cindy Lou, Missy, Suzy and Betty Jean – The Marvelous Wonderettes
The group is made up of four SHS seniors, Cindy Lou Huffington, Betty Jean Reynolds, Suzy Simpson and Missy Miller. When asked how the group came to be, Cindy Lou (the self-appointed spokesperson) offered, “Well, I love to sing and have always wanted to sing doo wop with my own backup singers. I mean, I absolutely ADORE The Chordettes and The Pony-Tails! So, I started my own group!” (This seemed to raise a bit of objection from the other three members of the quartet, but they seemed resigned to deferring to Miss Huffington.
The Super Senior Prom-goers will be entertained with songs such as: Mr. Sandman, Lollipop, Dream Lover and Stupid Cupid, among others. The ladies promise that everyone will have a “Marvelous” time at their prom.
The Marvelous Wonderettes are certain to entertain and can be booked for other events through their agent, Hard Road Theater Productions at the Facebook Agency.
