Lastly, here are some hints to prepare for auditions for our youth summer musicals.
Singing:
- Please prepare one of the chosen pieces to sing.
- The character that the song is originally for does not need to be the part you are auditioning for, pick the song that best suits your voice! Also, sing the song in the octave that is comfortable for you.
- It is not required that the song be memorized, but we will be more impressed if you do.
- You will sing the song with the accompaniment CD (ie. No voices singing your part). It is important that we see you can hold your own part with an accompaniment.
- You will be asked to do some simple singing exercises to show us your range, these will be led by the director and will be simple. Don’t worry! We want you to do great!
Reading:
- Please be familiar with all of the readings as the director may choose any of them for you to perform.
- The readings DO NOT need to be memorized (just be comfortable with the text)!
- The director may have you read lines for a character that he/she doesn’t want to cast you for because she just wants to hear how your voice sounds.
- Be flexible and show your personality!
Joke:
- Please be prepared to tell us your favorite joke! The directors may or may not ask for this. In doing so, they want to see your personality (and also just laugh!).
Personality:
- This is the most important part! Be yourself!
Where will cast list for fame jr. be posted.
The FAME JR. cast list has been posted on both the Hard Road webpage and the Hard Road Facebook page.
Are current 7th graders too old for Peter Pan?
It is the understanding of the webmaster that no, 7th graders are not too old for PETER PAN JR. FAME JR. is oriented towards older children (7th -12th grades). However, it is the understanding of the webmaster that 7th & 8th graders are eligible for PETER PAN JR., too. I would contract the director, Gentry Nessel via Facebook and ask her to make sure, though.
So auditions are either day
Sat or sun right ??
Thanks kristi
Yes, you should only have to attend auditions on one of those two days.
Does my child need to be at auditions on the 3rd & 4th or do we pick one of the two days? Thanks
You can just pick one of the two days. If you attend the first day of auditions and the directors want to see you again, they will let you know.
My daughter has been preparing the song “There She Goes” for her audition, but the song appears to have been taken off the list. Is she still able to perform that song for auditions? She’s been working on that since the audition songs were first posted.
“There She Goes” was removed from the list at the request of the director. We apologize for the inconvenience, but the webmaster does not know why. You will need to contact the director, David Whitacre, to find out if “There She Goes” is still acceptable. If you have any other questions about auditions, they should be directed to David Whitacre for FAME JR. and Gentry Nessel for PETER PAN JR.
Is there a way to contact him? Thank you!!
The best way at this point would be to contact him via Facebook. David Whitacre.
For Peter Pan, it is recommended for 2nd-7th graders. Does that mean students who will complete 2nd grade this year or students going into 2nd grade after the summer?
Auditions are open to students going into the 2nd grade.
Thank you. Just so I am clear on what is expected for the audition, we will need to learn 1 song from the list and all the sides listed and a joke to tell, correct?
Those auditioning for either PETER PAN JR or FAME JR should be prepared to sing one of the songs and be ready to read any of the scenes/sides listed. They should also be ready to tell a joke if asked to do so. The song doesn’t have to be memorized, but it is suggested that the song be memorized. NONE of the sides have to be memorized (the director might have a student read for a part the student wouldn’t even initially consider reading for). In addition, the director for FAME JR has asked those auditioning for FAME JR to review the choreography videos that have been posted. If you have any further questions, please contact the directors: the director for PETER PAN JR. is Gentry Nessel and the director for FAME JR. is David Whitacre.
Is there a rehearsal schedule for Fame Jr.? I was just curious in case of too much conflict with other things over the summer.
For rehearsal schedule information, you will need to contact the director. The director for FAME JR. is David Whitacre.
Where can I find the lyrics to the songs? By the way this is Alayna Ellis
Alayna, go to the “2014 Summer Youth Audition Information” blog post. There is a link now located in two different places in the post. If you want PETER PAN stuff, click the blue “Peter Pan Jr.” and if you want FAME stuff, click on the blue “Fame Jr.” These links should take you to a dropbox page where you can find the music (with lyrics) and recordings of the songs.
Since the auditions are drawing near for Fame Jr., when do you think the information will be posted?
The information for FAME JR. has been posted for a week. Please see the “2014 Summer Youth Audition Information” blog post and click on the “Fame Jr.” link. That should take you to a Dropbox page that has music and sides.
what are the chosen pieces, or will we not know until the day of tryouts?
The pieces are available on the website. Click on the link “PETER PAN JR.” listed under the 2014 Summer Youth Audition Information blog post. It should take you to a folder in dropbox that has the mp3 files, music, and sides needed for the Peter Pan Jr. auditions. Information for Fame Jr. isn’t available, yet, but will be posted as soon as it is.
