Here’s the information you were waiting for . . . information on auditions for Into the Woods, Jr and Disney’s Winnie the Pooh, Kids.
Auditions are scheduled for Thusday, May 3rd from 7:00 to 10:00 PM and callbacks are scheduled on Saturday, May 5th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Both sessions are being held at the Highland Elementary Auditorium on Lindenthal Avenue in Highland.
One session will be held for both shows and the students will then be cast in one show or another. Auditions are open to all children currently in grades 2 through 8. We do ask that one parent or guardian be present to help fill out audition forms and answer any questions that the directors might have.
The kids will all be taught one song that they will be given the opportunity to sing in groups if they want a chorus part, or individually if they are seeking a named singing part. We will also teach them a simple dance step as well. Finally, those students wanting a speaking role will also be given the opportunity to read briefly from the script.
The auditions on Thursday will allow the directors to meet the kids and form some ideas as to where they might best fit in either show. The Saturday callbacks will be to finalize the assignment of individual roles.More information will be posted as it becomes available.
I understand the audition time is from 7:00- 10:00. As the mother of a 7yr.old, I’d really not want her up until 10:00 since it is a school night. Are there plans for the younger kids to audition first, so they can get home and into bed? This will be our first kids’ show audition, so I don’t know the routine.
We have a conflict with dance class until 8:00pm (in Collinsville). Can we show up late or is there an alternate day/time? With the recital in early June, Alayna will not be able to miss dance class :0(
That isn’t a problem at all. We will also be there on Saturday from 11-2 for those of you who can’t make it to the Thursday auditions. There is no need to be at both. Just one. 😉
I have on my calendar that the Junior High School has a chorus concert on Thursday May 3rd. I anticipate this being an issue for quite of few of the 7 & 8 th graders who want to audition for your summer plays. I know it is for my daughter.
Sounds like we need to make some alternate plans for those kids. We’ll meet with the directors and let you know.
Researched it more. Looks like they moved that concert to May 8th so we are all good for the 3rd. Sorry if I caused a panic.
Isaac and Pacey are really excited. Me too. Knowing the songs would be helpful as both are working with vocal coaches and it would be nice to know which song they would be auditioning with.see you on May 3’rd.
Hang in there. We plan to have something for you to review in a few days.
Do the kids get to choose the musical they want to be in…or will they be placed in whichever one the director thinks is best?
The kids in grades 2 – 5 will most likely be cast in Winnie the Pooh and the older kids cast in Into the Woods. That being said, the directors may move kids around if they are better suited to the other production.
Hang tight, Dawna – that possibility is currently being discussed.
We are so excited about the upcoming summer shows! I have a question- is there any way that we could know the song(s) that will be used for the audition? I think it might give you a better audition from some of the kids if they could come in more prepared and not so nervous about a singing a song they just learned…
