Now Playing…

We made a commercial and if you’ve been to the Lory Theater in Highland in the past couple of weeks, you might have seen it playing before the trailers.

What do you think?

Shout-out To the Sponsors of Our Summer Shows

Shout-out To the Sponsors of Our Summer Shows

We are really excited about the shows we are producing this summer and would like to give a special shout-out to the sponsors of those shows. Hard Road is a non-profit theatre company and the financial support of our sponsors allows us to do more with each production than would be possible otherwise. So, thank you to our sponsors of our summer shows!

Performance dates for FRECKLEFACE STRAWBERRY are scheduled for July 13-16.

Lastly, here are some hints to prepare for auditions for our FRECKLEFACE STRAWBERRY.

Singing:

  • If you are a male, be prepared to sing “Be Yourself.” If you are female, you may sing any of the other songs.
  • The character that the song is originally for does not need to be the part you are auditioning for: pick the song that best suits your voice!  Also, sing the song in the octave that is comfortable for you.
  • It is not required that the song be memorized.
  • You will sing the song with the accompaniment CD (i.e. No voices singing your part). It is important that we see you can sing your own part with an accompaniment.
  • You may be asked to do some simple singing exercises to show us your range. We want you to do great, so relax and don’t worry!

Reading:

  • Please be familiar with all of the readings as the director may choose any of them for you to perform.
  • The readings DO NOT need to be memorized (just be comfortable with the text)!
  • The director may have you read lines for a character that he/she doesn’t want to cast you in because she just wants to hear how your voice sounds.
  • Be flexible and show us your personality.

Joke:

  • Please be prepared to tell us a favorite joke. The directors may or may not ask for this. In doing so, they want to see your personality (and also just laugh!).

Personality:

  • This is the most important part: be yourself and have fun!
Announcing our 2017-2018 Season!

Announcing our 2017-2018 Season!

We have received many requests and so, without further ado, Hard Road is proud to announce our 2017-2018 season! Please be aware that there might be one or two other productions that might be added at a later date. Also, don’t forget, we still have one production left in our current season: OUR TOWN.

We’re In Print!

We’re In Print!

Near the beginning of the movie The Jerk, Steve Martin’s character, Navin R. Johnson, gets all excited when the new phone book arrives and he sees his name in print. He makes the statement, “This is the kind of spontaneous publicity – your name in print – that makes people. I’m in print!” Hard Road feels a little like Navin R. Johnson did right now because, we’re in print, too!

Last winter, Hard Road had the privilege of presenting the state and regional premiere of the play DRINKING HABITS 2. At the time, DRINKING HABITS 2 was an unpublished work and Hard Road was the 2nd place in the world to present the play. DRINKING HABITS 2 has now been published by the Playscripts publishing (order a copy here: https://www.playscripts.com/play/2964). The production information from Hard Road’s production has been listed in the front of the script. In addition a photo from Hard Road’s production is featured and Hard Road is mentioned in the thank you comments.

It might not seem like much, but for our little theatre company, this is some great recognition. What this means is that anytime anyone anywhere picks up a copy of DRINKING HABITS 2, they will see Hard Road’s name and Highland, IL. There are theatre companies that have been around much longer than Hard Road that have never been mentioned in a published script. It’s quite an honor. So, congratulations to the cast & crew of DRINKING HABITS 2 and congratulations to Hard Road!
